Slovene speaking Project Assistant without doctorate (FWF project on Intra-Yugoslav Albanian migration), CSEES University of Graz

The Centre for Southeast European Studies (CSEES), is looking for a Project Assistant without doctorate (30 hours a week; expected employment for the period of 30 months; position to be filled as of June 1st, 2020 )

CSEES is looking for a researcher to work on the project “To the Northwest! Your duties:

  • Participating in the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) project “To the Northwest! Intra-Yugoslav Albanian migration (1953-1989)” with a PhD project focused on the labour migration of Yugoslav Albanians (from Kosovo/Macedonia) to the Socialist Republic of Slovenia explored through historical and historical anthropological methods
  • Participation in the PhD Programme Southeastern Europe or in the training programme of the consortium Europeanization Processes in Southeastern Europe
  • Assisting with the administration of the FWF project “To the Northwest!” (e.g. organizing events, workshops, research management, dissemination of project results)
  • The candidate is expected to undertake field research in Slovenia during 2021

 

Your profile

  • BA and MA (or pre-Bologna degree) in history, social anthropology, sociology, migration studies or a comparable field
  • Written and spoken Slovene language competence is also essential (the candidate needs to be able to undertake interviews and conduct archival research in Slovene)
  • Knowledge of Albanian, Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian and/or German is an advantage
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English
  • Experience in qualitative research methods (oral history interviews, archival research) and knowledge of the following topics: 20th century history of the Balkans; Yugoslav socialism; Albanian Studies; Social and labour history; gender studies
  • Ability to work reliably as part of a team as well as autonomously when needed

  • A short description of a proposed dissertation project relating to the labour migration of Yugoslav Albanians to the Socialist Republic of Slovenia (max. 3 pages)

  • Details of two referees who will be contacted for letters of recommendation (for shortlisted candidates only)
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview either via skype or in person in Graz in March/ April 2020
