ASS, [A]Infoshop, AKC Metelkova, wednesday 13.2. ob 18.00

An enigma?
This time we will talk about things, that are not interrelated but still, they function as if they were and - lo and stand - suddenly they are related. We will talk about living things about which it is impossible to say anything final, nothing that would be true. We will talk about the most unfamilliar and most unpredictable people we know, about their social functioning and their "first and most natural tools" (M. Mauss) - we will talk about ourselves.
Yes, an enigma!

Welcome everybody!

Presentation of fieldwork among guni, traditional Indian healers

Denis Oprešnik will present a part of his fieldwork among guni, traditional healers in Rajasthanu (India). Guni is a relatively new concept which appeared in recent history and became a marker for a wide group of healers, coming from different cultural, geographical and political contexts. Despite heterogeneity, can we speak of shared identity? Who presents a common denominator which a potential new identity is built on, and what are it’s effects? How to even become a guni and what does this bring with it?
These are some of the questions which we will try to answer on this week´s ASS.
The presentation will be accompanied with some photo and video material and will be followed by heated discussion.

Join us!

P.s.: This time ASS will be held in Slovenian, for anyone who doesn´t understand, we will try to help with simultaneous summarizing.
